Kakheti
Leaving Hotel early in the morning for Kakheti, Kvareli region, where we will visit the tunnel that was dug out of the flank of the Greater Caucasus Mountains near Kvareli in Kakheti. The tunnel was originally built by the military towards the end of the 1950s. The rapid development of military technologies, however, rendered the tunnel’s defensive potential obsolete and it lost its meaning. From that moment on, the tunnel was used to store Kakheti’s finest wines. It has a natural temperature of 12-14˚C throughout the year, ideal for storing and ageing wine. This is where the Winery Khareba stores around 25,000 bottles of its finest wines. We will also visit one of the historical cities of Kakheti – Nekresi, founded in II-I cc. B.C. Nekresi Monastery Assembly unites several masterpieces of Georgian historical architecture, the oldest of which is the small Basilica built in IV century. The Basilica is one of the oldest church buildings in Georgia that still exists as a whole building. Following Nekresi, we will visit historical capital city of Kakheti – Gremi and will have a dinner (Georgian cuisine).
